Udupi, Oct 13: Goa police arrested career criminal Nagaraj Balegar who dramatically escaped while he was being brought to Udupi from Thrissur.
Police arrested his wife who was with him while escaping from a lodge in Udupi on August 28.

The two policemen escorted the under-trial to Udupi. Nagaraj called a woman named Lakshmi from one of the policeman's mobile phone and asked her to book two rooms at a hotel at Ontibettu near Hiriyadka, about 12 km from Udupi.
All four stayed overnight at the hotel, with Nagaraj and Lakshmi occupying a room and the policemen another. The policemen found both Nagaraj and Lakshmi missing the next morning. They had requested the hotel staff not to disclose the matter.
He was supposed to produced before a Udupi court in connection with a house-breaking and a theft case.
Nagaraja Balegar is a resident of Baikady of Brahmavar and has cases in various police stations of undivided Dakshina Kannada. He is wanted in as many as 25 cases in Kerala and Karnataka state.
Nagaraj, had once bitten the hands of Puttur ASI Rama Nayak, splashed chilly powder into his eyes and escaped, when he was being taken to Hubli Court. Later he was caught by public.
He had escaped from Hubli jail too.
His brother Muthappa is also a rowdy-sheeter, involved in Vinod Shetty's murder at Hiriyadka jail on 14 January 2011.
