Basheer (20) and Bathish(28), both children of Monu Saheb a resident of Kodi, were hospitalized with severe injuries following the brutal attack.
The incident took place on Thursday evening at Kaipady near TT Road in Kundapur taluk of Udupi district.
According to sources, a buffalo belonging to Monu Saheb had gone missing from its shed. It is not confirmed weather someone had stolen the buffalo or it had escaped.
However, the animal had crossed a lake reached Kaipady by evening. A retired KPTCL lineman identified as Narasimha Mogaveera, who noticed the wandering buffalo tied it near his house.
Monu Saheb, the owner of the buffalo, finally came to know about the whereabouts of the missing animal and went along with his two sons to bring it back.
When there were about to return with buffalo, a group of assailants surrounded them alleging them of involving in illegal cattle transportation. Even though the father and two sons tried to convince the attackers, they began to assault Basheer and Bathish brutally.
The condition of Basheer is said to be critical. Jurisdictional Kundapur Police are investigating the matter after registering a case.
