Mangalore, Oct 19: The Dakshina Kannada Federation of Education Resource Centres in association with Padi-Valored submitted a consultative report after meeting teachers, people's representatives and public about the implementation of Right to Education (RTE) Act in undivided Dakshina Kannada district at Block Educational Office, Mangalore on Saturday.
Experts committee of 42 members in a survey conducted in 160 schools in eight taluk in undivided Dakshina Kannada, during September 20 to September 29 as a part of'Teacher-Education week' reported several problems in Right to Education for teachers and students.
Padi-Valored director Renni D'Souza, before submitting the report briefing it in a formal function said, "Though the RTE Act was implemented three years ago, several problems remain unsolved. Violations take place in various stages starting from the admission process. Issues like shortage of teachers and lack of infrastructure are yet to be resolved," Renni said adding that, “committee has reported number of problems faced by students and parents as well”, he said.
“Schools have shortage of counsellors. Students need trained teachers, play grounds, toilets, compound walls to school, science, laboratories, library, drinking water facility and buildings are the major needs”, he quoted.
Delivering suggestion Renny Dsouza said, “There is need of one teacher for every 30 students. Student needs a counsellor to listen their problems and a trainer,” he said. Even teachers need training and to provide quality education resource persons are needed, he said.
Nali-Kali program has to be extended to class 8 students, there is need of transference in school administration and state government have to form strict rules under RTE to reduce pressure on teachers in school, he suggested.
Shiva Prakash, District planning officer, Sarva Shikshana Abhiyana responding to report he said, “Earlier there were problems in schools but now most of the problems are solved. Basic amenities like infrastructure is not found anywhere in district. There may be false recorded in reports”, he opined.
