Mangalore, Oct 21: Despite being the second largest community in the country comprising of 15 per cent of the country's population, the Muslim community, they are being deprived of opportunities. The community has been pushed to the brink of anonymity with an unfavourable response from the government and atrocities by fundamentalists.
Keeping the above in mind, the Dakshina Kannada unit of Communist Party of India (Marxist) will organise a convention to fight for the legal rights of the Muslim community on October 27 at Shanthi Nilaya, Balmatta, announced CPI(M) DK district committee secretary B Madhav.
Briefing reporters at a press conference here on Friday, he said that certain aspects such as legal aspects of these community members were worse than those of SC/ST communities.
The government has failed to give Muslims their fundamental rights and exploits them only for the sake of vote bank politics.
Innocent Muslim youths are being framed for terror activities and there is no job security to Muslims who are employed in garages, as fish-sellers, fruit-sellers etc., he said, adding that recommendations made by Justice Ranganath Mishra had not been implemented so far.
The convention, scheduled to be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, will be attended by general secretary of the party Prakash Karat. During the convention, discussions will be held with regard to the problems faced by Muslims, he said.
