Mangalore, Nov 6: Department of health and family welfare will introduce Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) biscuits in Anganwadis of malnutrition affected taluks in Karnataka state.
State Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader speaking with journalists here on Wednesday said that, “department of health and family welfare has decided to take up a malnutrition affected taluks to launch its pilot project'AYUSH Biscuits' for children below 5 years in anganwadis,” he said adding that, “based on its results program will be extended to entire state,” he said.
He said AYUSH biscuits are tested by department experts and produced enough stock for a taluk. These are made using ayurvedic herbs, considering the nutrition need in anganwadi children. Fund for this programme is reserved under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).
Free phone SIM cards to ASHA
Nearly 35,000 Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), in Karnataka will receive free mobile sim cards to communicate with healthcare officials, doctors, nurses and also deliver work and training related information, according to a new report, UT Khadar said. It will help to communicate any message at a time with every ASHA workers, he added.
State government also decided to continue vehicle allowances given for ASHA's. Earlier union government was giving Rs 200 of vehicle allowances but now it is withdrawn. Considering financial problems of activists, the state government decided to continue it, UT Khadar said.
Computerization in Wenlock hospital
Soon Wenlock hospital Mangalore will get complete data base system. Every data of patient will be stored and used for the follow up, he said.
Integrated medicine's in Taluk
Patients can choose any kind of Indian systems of medicine such as Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) and allopathic in taluks. Government planned to open medical facilities in taluk primary health centres, he said.

However, State Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader welcoming CBI probe into CBI investigation into the October 2012 rape and murder of a minor girl in Ujire town near Dharmasthala said that, “decision by home minister is welcomed and government is always for justice,” he said.
Ullal Masjid clash
Answering to a journalist's question on recent clash between two Muslim groups during Friday prayers he said, “I had gone for the Wakf meeting but I have not supported any. I am a politician and community members stop indulging us in religious issues,” he said.
However, I had clearly told Mohiuddin Juma Masjid committee members to conduct meeting and sort out the issues but clashes erupted before the meeting. I am not in favour of any groups. I have respect for religion and community and I will perform my duties, UT Khadar clarified.
