
Bantwal, Nov 7: Activists of a Hindu outfit thrashed two persons who were transporting cattle in a vehicle and handed them over to Bantwal rural police, along with the cattle, on Tuesday evening.
Moideen Ashfaq and Abdul Azeez from Kavala-Padoor are the ones who were thrashed and later handed over to the cops.
Acting on a tip off the activists from a particular organization stopped the tempo carrying one cow and two calves at Navoor.
However, counter case has been filed against Shivprasad, Lokesh, Ashwath, Harish and Sadananda. They were all produced before the court and released on bail.
Repercussion
Meanwhile, two persons who were returning home after work were assaulted on Tuesday night at Kelaginapete of Bantwal. With pressure mounting on the police for nabbing the culprits, two persons were taken into custody for questioning in this connection.
Lokesh and Kiran D'Souza from Jakribettu were on their way back home when a gang assaulted them. The incident sparked tension in the region for sometime as it is said that the two were assaulted to avenge the Navoor attack.
The victims were rushed to a private hospital in Mangalore.
It is said that SP Shanthanu Sinha has subjected the two suspects to investigation. However, the sources say that the police are under immense political pressure in this case.
