Mangalore, Nov 8: Members of Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS) staged a protest in front of DC office on Thursday against the'callous' attitude of the state government in granting them land rights.
The protest was a part of a state-wide two-day protest to demand land rights to farmers and daily-wage labourers who have “encroached” government land, implementation of housing schemes for landless labourers, among others.
Addressing the protestors, District unit of Sangha K R Shriyan said: “Though farmers of the region have been cultivating the lands for decades or even centuries, the government claims they are encroachers upon forest land. It is clear that the government is trying to displace the farmers.”
Deputy Commissioner N Prakash accepted the list of demands submitted by the Sangha.
