Mangalore, Nov 8: Commissioner of Central Excise and Service Tax, Mangalore Dr M Subramanyam has asked the non-filers and stop-filers of service tax such as industry bodies and other associations to pay their pending Service Tax dues of the last five years under the Service Tax Voluntary Compliance Encouragement Scheme, 2013.
Delivering an address on the scheme at Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) here on Friday, he said that the Service Tax Voluntary Compliance Encouragement Scheme had been operational since May 10 and will continue till December 31.
He said that the scheme offered a one-time opportunity to defaulters to come clean and make pending Service tax dues of the last five years without any penalty or interest. Such schemes come rarely and are beneficial for the trade, he said, urging non-filers, stop-filers and incorrect return filers among the industry associations to make truthful declaration of pending Service Tax dues of last five years.
Under this scheme, defaulters have to pay at least 50 percent of Service tax dues for the five-year period (from October 2007 to December 2012) before December 31, 2013. The remaining 50 percent of dues have to be paid by June 30, 2014 without interest, or by December 31, 2014 with interest.
On compliance with all the proceedings, defaulters will get immunity from interest, penalties and proceedings, he said.
The applications for the scheme can be filed at persons of authority such as Assistant Commissioner of Central Excise and Service Tax, Mangalore or Deputy Commissioner of Central Excise and Service Tax, Udupi, he added.
KCCI vice-president Nigam Vasani, treasurer Ganesh Bhat, Chairman of Mangalore branch of SIRC of ICAI M Jagannath Kamath and others were present.
