Chikmagalur, Nov 9: The N R Pura police in Chikmagalur district on Friday registered a case against senior BJP?MLA and former minister D N Jeevaraj and two others, following a complaint by a woman that the trio had raped her in May 2010.
The woman alleged that Jeevaraj, a three-time MLA from Sringeri, along with two local BJP leaders, kidnapped her near Kesaki village and raped her at the legislator's farmhouse.
She also alleged that the perpetrators took her photos on a mobile phone and threatened her of dire consequences if the matter was made public. The woman claimed to have kept mum all these years fearing for her life, the police said.
Others named in the complaint are N R Pura town panchayat president J G Nagaraj and former president B R Asish Kumar.
Confirming that a case has been registered, Chikmagalur Superintendent of Police Abhishek Goyal said further action would be taken after medical examination of the complainant and inspection of alleged crime scene.
Jeevaraj was the minister for food and civil supplies in the Jagadish Shettar government. Earlier, he was the government chief whip in the Assembly. He told mediapersons that the complaint was a political conspiracy. “A section of my political enemies is trying to frame me,” he said.
He added that a person named Manu called him on July 19. “Manu worked with me for many years. He kept calling me for the next three days. Finally I?realised that the call was being made to blackmail me and extract money. People yield to blackmail if they have done anything wrong. I have done no wrong to anybody,” he said.
Jeevaraj said he filed a complaint at the Vidhana Soudha police station in Bangalore on August 20, claiming that Manu was trying to use his aunt's daughter as a front for extracting money.
