Mangalore, Nov 9: Keeping in mind the ample opportunities for tourism development and investments in the coastal districts, Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FKCCI) President R Shivakumar has said that there is an immediate need to improve the road connectivity system to the region.
Addressing the reporters at KCCI hall on Saturday, he said that good roads can be laid only if there is political will.
“Mangalore's economy is based on agricultural processing and fisheries. The Mangalore Port is ranked among 9 major ports of the nation,” he said adding that as far as CRZ regulations are concerned, in most of the states, the people living near the shores are being asked to vacate the place. Similar action must be taken even in this region.
Construction of tunnel at Shiradi ghat, uniform taxation policy, withdrawal of trade licence, repealing the 0.5 pc hike in VAT, liberal tourism policies, permission for Kanara chamber of Commerce and Industry representatives to take part in government meets, appointment of these representatives to various Authorities, Boards were some of the demand kept forth by him.

Speaking about'Mathan', a students' career orientation programme conducted by FKCCI, he said that the programme is being organized over the last 5 years for degree and post graduation students.
“The programme intends to sharpen the technical skills of the students and prepare them to become entrepreneurs. The first place winner of the programme is given cash prize of Rs 1 lac. Further, FKCCI also supports them in their endeavours of setting up an industrial unit, if they intend to in the future,” he said.
