
Belthangady, Nov 9: Naxals are again showing up in the western ghats and in one such acts to make their presence felt, they have set a car and bike belonging to Ramachandra Bhat, a resident of Naravi in Belthagady ablaze.
It is said that the naxalites have executed this act suspecting that Mr Bhat, a Gram Panchayat member to be a police informer.
On Saturday at about 2 am, 10 to 20 armed men had knocked the door of Mr Bhat's residence and had compelled him to open the door.
When Mr Bhat and his family refused to respond, they set ablaze an Omni car and a bike which was parked in the courtyard.
According to the sources Mr Bhat has been working closely with Belthangady MLA Vasanth Bangera and he has been toiling for rehabilitation of the forest dwellers.
Mr Bhat has also been helping the forest dwellers to get benefits from the government directly.
Anti Naxal Force Chief Seemanth Kumar Singh, Inspector General of Police (western range)Prathap Reddy among other top police officials visited the spot.
A case has been registered at Venoor police station.
