
Mangalore, Nov 11: The government is committed to developing Padumale in Puttur, which is the birth place of tulunadu heroes Koti and Chennayya and in this regard a sum of Rs 5 crore will be earmarked in the budget, said District in-charge Minister B Ramanath Rai addressing the meeting convened to chalk out plans of developing Padumale, held at Kankanadi Garodi on Sunday.
Mr Rai said that while developing Padumale, there is a need to pay attention towards developing the nearby areas as well.
Acquiring land for developing Padumale, building medical college and hospital, laying park of medicinal plants, connecting road to the birth place, restoring monuments, utilisation of fund, making it as cultural and heritage spot and preserving tradition were the issues raised during the discussion meet.
Folklorist, Bannanje Babu Amin speaking on Padumale said that the funds must be utilized effectively without any scope for misappropriation.
Mohommed Badagur, taluk panchayat member of Padumale said that many people have come forward to donate land for developing the historic birth place of Koti-Chennayya.
He said that while 2.24 acre is available at hand, there is need for an additional 60 acre. There is forest land, which can be acquired for this purpose, he said.
Puttur MLA Shakunthala Shetty said that tourism will be developed in the areas in such a way that sanctity of the place remains intact.
Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake, former MLA Rukmayya Poojary, Deputy Commissioner N Prakash, Assistant DC Dayanand, Kankanady Garodi Kshethra President Chitharanja, Koti Chennayya Ithihasika Kshethra Samvardhana Prathishtana (Padumale) President Narayan Rai among others were present.
