Mangalore, Nov 14: Man's greed for money has today made even organic products susceptible to adulteration.
Raising this point while inaugurating a seminar held on Organic farming, renowned cardiologist Dr B M Hegde said that the food that is being eaten by the people too has been poisoned due to greed of man.
“The scenario today is disheartening. It is painful to see that there are very few farmers left behind. The situation is so worse that today workers who are well-versed in paddy cultivation are taken from Mangalore to grow paddy in Udupi,” he said adding that the lush green patches have been transformed into concrete jungle.
“Due to consumption of such adulterated food, the body is becoming a den of diseases. Hence, the ones taking up organic farming must not just think of their profits but should consider the health of the consumers too,” he said.
Social worker Rita Noronha welcoming the gathering said that excessive use of chemical fertilizers has led to poisoning of food stuff.
“Attempts must be made to break this vicious circle and farmers must be encouraged to take up organic farming,” she said.
