Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Mr. Poojary urged the State government to provide the BJP leader complete protection during his visit to Bangalore.
“Let him come to Bangalore. He needs to speak, and once he speaks, it is the Congress's gain,” he said.
When asked to explain, he said, “If one spreads hatred, people are watching their words and actions, and have their own judgment. No person in the country likes division among communities.”
Criticising the speeches made by Mr. Modi at his rallies, Mr. Poojary said, “If he wants to become the Prime Minister, he needs to think and speak the truth.”
Mr. Poojary said that it would be “tragedy” for the country if Mr Modi became Prime Minister. “He does not even know the basics of how the country should be run. He displaced several senior leaders of his own party.”
Later fielding questions from reporters, he reiterated his opposition to the anti-superstition Bill. He said that the laws in the Indian Penal Code were “adequate” to tackle superstitious practices. “The Bill is not a positive move as it would create divisions among people. Already the Sangh Parivar is spreading rumours that the Bill is anti- Hindu. Particularly during the time of elections, the Bill can be twisted by other parties for their own political gains,” he said. Instead, raising awareness about superstitious practices in schools would be a better move to tackle the issue, he said.
Asked to comment on his views about extending Shaadi Bhagya scheme to all, he said, “The Muslims were in minority and the scheme was planned for them.
However, Chief Minister Siddaramiah said that there might be a move to extend it to people of all communities. Give the government some time, it would need more funds.”
