Mangaluru, Oct 28: A group of Bajrang Dal activists stormed into a salon and attacked its owner without any provocation at Nellyadi in Uppinangady on Tuesday.
Shaima Men’s Parlour, owned by Sadiq, a local resident and run by Salman from Uttar Pradesh was damaged in the attack.
When Salman was cleaning his parlour, Udaya, owner of nearby Shridevi Salon, who is said to be a Sangh Parivar activist, questioned the former who gave him authority to keep the shop open on Tuesday. There were heated exchange of words and blows between the two.
In the evening, a group of Bajrang Dal activists stormed the Shaima Men’s Parlour and attacked Salman. Some of the intruders have been identified as Yashvant, Santosh, Mahesh, Vinod, Raviprasad.
Meanwhile, a few local youths, belonging to Muslim community, rushed to the salon to rescue Salman. This led to a clash between two groups. In an apparent attempt to intensify the clash, a few miscreants also pelted stones at nearby shops belonging to minority community members.
Sensing trouble, a man called the Uppianangady police, who came to the spot within minutes. The police lathi-charged and cleared the people from the area.
A few people suffered injuries during the clash. Salman and Vinod were hsopitalised, sources said.
“I thank the person who intimated the police. The Uppinangady police and prevented a likely clash between two communities,” said Superintendent of Police Sharanappa S.D., who was at the spot.
