Bantwal, Apr 20: A gang of unidentified miscreants hacked a youth to death inside the office of Karopadi Gram Panchayat in Bantwal taluk in broad daylight on Thursday.
The victim has been identified as Abdul Jaleel Karopadi (40), the vice-president of Karopadi Gram Panchayat. He is the son of Usman Karopadi, a senior member of Bantwal Taluk Panchayat. The incident took place within a short period after Jaleel entered his office.
According to sources, four masked assailants who came in two motorbikes barged into the Gram Panchayat office and brutally attacked Jaleel with lethal weapons after throwing chilli powder on his face.
The assailants fled the spot when Jaleel collapsed in a pool of blood. A critically injured Jaleel breathed his last while being taken to a hospital at Natekal, sources said.
Police rushed to the murder scene and conducted spot investigation. A case has been registered. The motto behind murder is yet to be known. Investigations are on.
