Bengaluru, Jan 6: Varalakshmi Gundu Rao, wife of former Karnataka Chief Minister R Gundu Rao and mother of former KPCC President Dinesh Gundu Rao passed away on Tuesday night.
She was 72 and survived by three sons including Mr Dinsh Gundu Rao.
Family sources said that she was suffering from Covid-19 related illness.
She entered politics in 1996 after her husband’s death and contested elections for Bengaluru South Lok Sabha seat and surprised all by defeating BJP's then stalwart late H N Ananth Kumar.
Ministers Sriramulu, S Suresh Kumar, among others, have condoled the death of Varalakshmi Gundu Rao.
