Los Angeles, Oct 16: The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) rhonored its members with annual Triumph Awards during the 89th annual convention and exhibit of the association recently held in Los Angeles.
The AHIMA awards recognize the excellence, dedication, and service of health information management professionals whose work has enriched the field. Dr Varadraj Prabhu Gurupur, who hails from Mangaluru, was honoured the Research Triumph Award among them.
Dr Gurupur’s area of research is improving the data science and knowledge management aspects of decision support systems for healthcare and education.
He has more than 85 publications that include journal articles, papers, abstracts, published reviews, posters, book chapters and special issues with reputable journals. Dr Gurupur received his PhD in computer engineering in 2010 and a Masters of Science in Computer Science in 2005 from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Dr Gurupur completed his schooling and engineering in Mangaluru and is an alumnus of Mangalore University.
Currently, Dr Gurupur is working as an assistant professor in the department of health management and informatics at the University of Central Florida.
He has a particular interest in decision support and many of his innovations are based on the problems associated with patient data that he perceived while working as a data manager for the Alzheimer’s disease research center with the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
