Bhatkal, Oct 20: Jewelry worth about Rs 40 lakh, which was donated to Durgaparameshwari Temple here by devotees was stolen from the temple premises.

Police said on Tuesday that the temple authorities, in a complaint, further added that a priest who was working at the temple was also missing ever since the incident came to light on Monday night.

The temple administration in the complaint has identified the missing priest as Sathish Bhat, a resident of Yellapur.

In the complaint, it is added that the incident came to the light when the Chief priest of the temple opened the jewellery box on the occasion of Navratri, to put the jewellery on the goddess.

The temple authorities reportedly tried contacting Sathish over the phone as he had the keys to a jewellery locker. Unable to contact him over the phone, the administration decided to break open the locker, as it was the ritual of the temple to put jewellery on the Goddess.

Sathish was working at the temple for the last year but had not reported to the duty for over a month now. The authorities further added that they last spoke to Sathish over the phone on Friday, but were unable to contact him on Saturday.

A case in this regard has been registered at Bhatkal Rural Police Station and investigations are underway. A special team has also been formed by Yellapur Police to trace Sathish Bhat.

KPCC chief's statement comes a day after he demanded an investigation into the alleged suicide attempt by Santosh.

"As per my information, as whatever I heard was that a confidential video was distributed by Chief Minister's political secretary NR Santosh to an MLC and a minister. Later, it was also given to high command leaders of BJP," the Congress leader had said.

"That MLC and minister both were blackmailing the Chief Minister and the leaders in government. It has been happening for the last several months. The Chief Minister's political secretary allegedly trying to commit suicide is not a small issue. It needs to be investigated properly, the investigation must not be done by the (state) government," he had said.

Bengaluru, Nov 27: Karnataka leader of the opposition Siddaramaiah and former Chief Minister of Haryana Bhupinder S Hooda on Friday came out in support of the ongoing protest march near the Delhi border areas against the farm laws.

This comes as farmers' groups, including women, continued their march towards Delhi while protesting and raising slogans.

"Farmers are being stopped from entering the Capital!! What if farmers also decide to block their produce from entering Delhi? Will BJP leaders in Delhi starve?" Siddaramaiah tweeted.

The Congress leader also questioned the Centre's "adamance" over the farm laws. "When the whole farming community is against the new farm laws, why is the govt so adamant about taking it forward? Are corporate interests more important than farmers' lives?"

He further asked, "What if farmers also decide to block their produce from entering Delhi?"

Meanwhile, Bhupinder Hooda appealed to the people of Haryana to provide shelter and food to the farmers who are protesting peacefully.

"I appeal to the people of Haryana that every effort should be made to provide shelter, food and drink, treatment and medical help, to the farmers who are protesting peacefully...We are with the farmers. The government must come forward to negotiate with the farmers, and find solutions soon," Hooda tweeted in Hindi.

Meanwhile, scores of farmers at the Tikri border near the Delhi-Bahadurgarh highway and the Singhu border were seen agitating amid heavy security deployment.

While the government said the three laws will do away with middlemen, enabling farmers to sell their produce in the commercial markets, protestors fear that this could lead to the government not buying produce at guaranteed prices, thereby disrupting their timely payments.
