
Mangalore, Mar 19: Former vice chancellor of Manipal University and former director-professor and dean of Kasturba Medical College Dr B M Hegde conferred the annual PaGo Award for best rural reporting to Suresh D Palli, correspondent of Kannada daily Hosa Digantha, in a simple ceremony held at Press Club here on Wednesday.
The annual award is instituted by Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists ' Union in honour of an eminent journalist from the district Late Padyana Gopalkrishna Bhat.
Mr Palli was selected as the recipient of the award for the year 2013 for his report Korapalu Sarathyadalli Belagitu Grama ' published on June 13, 2013.
The award consisted of a memento, citation, shawl and a cash prize of Rs 10,000.
The award was conferred to Mr Palli in the presence of Savitri Gopalakrishna, wife of Late Padyana Gopalkrishna Bhat.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr B M Hegde urged the journalists to strive for truth and strive towards strengthening the society. “A person should bloom every day and work for the betterment of the society,” he said.
Praising the article of the award recipient on a rural example of social service, he said that the article ought to be translated to English and circulated so that it would reach more number of readers.
