Kuwait City, July 2: Kuwait India Fraternity Forum, a socio cultural organization of Indians residing in Kuwait organised a public get-together on “empower the community, empower the nation” recently at Kuwait Teachers Society Auditorium, DASMA.

Riyaz Pasha, General Secretary, Popular Front of India, Karnataka state unit, addressing the Indian expatriate community said that Indian Muslims, who have a glorious history of independence, governance and political freedom along with economic prosperity before Independence, are now facing marginalisation, economic deprivation, under representation in government jobs and backwardness in the field of education. In spite of this glorious heritage, Muslims of India are now considered extremely poor and are leading a life of poverty and deprivation, he pointed out.

Lamenting on the ignorance from the government’s side, Mr. Pasha said that the Muslims and other minorities are dumped lower, remained marginalised mainly because of neglect and discrimination by the successive governments since independence.

He pointed out that part of responsibility rests on the community also because any effort to empower the community must start from within the community itself.

Calling for a change, he said that the collective efforts from expatriate Indians could play a major role in the empowerment of backward and marginalized communities in India.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. S.M Basheer, President Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association (KKMA) DK Wing said that all the Muslim groups should stay united for the empowerment of the community.
