Puttur, Oct 16: A 35-year-old woman was injured after a crude bomb exploded outside her house at Polya in Kabaka village near Puttur in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to the police, the crude bomb exploded just as Narayan Prasad and his wife, Nalini, opened the door after hearing a sound outside the house at about 1 a.m.
Nalini was injured in her leg. She was shifted to a private hospital in Mangaluru for treatment.
A team of personnel from the Forensic Science Laboratory and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad searched the house of Prasad and found two live crude bombs.
They also seized remnants of the exploded bomb. The police said that the bombs were made from gel-based ammonium nitride.
The police said that they suspected the involvement of Babu alias Balu (60) in the incident. Prasad had removed Babu, who worked in his house, three months ago. Babu was at large, the police said.
Prasad, who owns KN Caterers, says he would have been dead had he not stepped away from the door to open the windows. Due to the impact of the explosion, window panes were shattered and the door of an adjoining garage was also twisted.
The Puttur Town Police have registered a case under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) and 427 (mischief) of the Indian Penal Code and under Sections 3 and 4 of the Explosive Substances Act 1908.
Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police B R Ravikanthe Gowda said two teams had been formed to nab the ex-employee Babu who is suspected to have planted the bombs in retaliation to his removal.
The SP informed that based on evidences they suspect Narayan’s disgruntled employee Babu had placed crude bombs around the house. Babu had sought employment in the house two months ago, after he was evicted from a local mosque. A week ago Babu had left the house after Narayan Prasad had chided him for coming home in an inebriated state.
