Belagavi, Oct 18: Nine persons were killed when a truck collided with a passenger vehicle entering the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway-4 near Hitni Cross of Hukkeri taluk in the district on Saturday.

While entering the highway, the driver of the passenger vehicle failed to see the speeding truck. The truck which was heading towards Belagavi from Kolhapur collided with the passenger vehicle, which crashed into an ambulance. The impact was such that the passengers were tossed out of the vehicle.
Six persons died on the spot and one breathed his last en route to hospital. Two more died of their injuries later.
The deceased are Ramesh Appasab Patil (42), Jyotiram Ramgouda Patil (62), Mahadev Balgouda Patil (60), Dr Krishna More (48), Shankar Irappa Kumbar (48), Somu Kallappa Badiger (38), Papu Shivling Kumbar (65), Kedari Patil (40), and Praveen Babasaheb Patil (33). The injured are Rajendra Hazare, Shivgouda Patil, Balgouda Patil and Subhash Patil. They have been admitted to the District Hospital in Belagavi for treatment.
