
Addressing mediapersons at a press meet at MESCOM head office here on Sunday, he said that the state government had decided to launch a scheme to provide rooftop solar units to 89 beneficiaries on a pilot basis in Mangalore city.
Under this scheme, a total of 89 beneficiaries can avail the solar units for a subsidy of 30 percent from central government and 20 percent from state government against the total cost per unit.
The minister said that the government was also planning to bring four districts being supplied electricity from Mescom - Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikmagalur and Shimoga – will be brought under a new Karnataka State Electrical Inspectorate in the coming days.
He also said that the farmers in the state would be provided with seven hours of power supply in three-phases.
Agreement to purchase power
He said that the state government would sign an agreement to purchase 450 MW of electricity from Damodar Valley project in Kolkata on March 4 to ensure that people in the state did not face problems with regard to power supply.
When asked about the state government's decision on the Niddodi hydro-electric power project in Udupi district, he said that he would study the project comprehensively and take a decision on its implementation.
