The rumour of terror threat to the airport had gripped the city of Mangalore on Monday. However, MIA director J T Radhakrishna denied any such threat. The police were also unaware about it.
“Mangalore Airport is safe. There is no terror threat. But, all airports in India are on high alert” he said. He also said that additional security measures were being taken at the airport.
It is learnt that the high alert was put into effect after the Karachi terror attack. The Central Industrial Security Force has stationed sixty additional personnel in the airport and its surrounding areas to take note of suspicious activities.
Police reported that a bomb detection squad and highly trained sniffer dogs are on constant duty. Passengers and visitors will also be checked by a special team for any abnormal activities.
