Moodbidri, Mar 18: Dr Ashok, the Assistant Returning Officer for Moodbidri has expressed shock over the reports appeared in a section of media, which stated that he had taken suo-motu action against former union minister B Janardhan Poojary.
A Mangalore based newspaper and a news portal on Tuesday reported that Dr Ashok filed a 'suo-motu case' against Mr Poojary, who is contesting as Congress candidate from Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency in upcoming general elections.
“I have neither taken suo-motu action nor launched an investigation against Mr Poojary as reported by media,” he clarified.
Dr Ashok, however, said that officials concerned have “reported” the incident of violation of model code of conduct during a Congress meeting on March 16 at Moodbidri, to the District Election Officer (Deputy Commissioner).
“One of the Congress leaders (Mr Poojary) has made certain personal remarks against a BJP leader during the meeting. This is considered as the breach of model code of conduct and not as a criminal offence. Our duty is to report such cases to DEO” he said.
It is learnt that during Congress campaign in Moodbidri, Mr Poojary had reportedly mentioned about the weaknesses of BJP prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi 's personal life and asked how can a person, who failed to handle his marital life, manage entire India.
