Mangalore, Mar 8: Dakshina Kannada 's communally sensitive town of Kalladka once again witnessed clashes between two groups on Saturday that triggered wave of fear and tension among people.
The latest violence occurred during a Congress party rally, wherein a Congress member harshly criticized RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat for his attempts to create riots in the region through provocative speeches.
Taking umbrage at the remarks made against Mr Bhat, a group of Hindutva activists began to quarrel with the Congress activists gathered in the area. Within a few minutes a violent clash erupted between two groups as one group began to pelt stones injuring a few people.
Police had to resort to baton charge and fire tear gas shells to disperse a mob and bring the situation under control.
As part of precautionary measures, several shopkeepers in the town closed their shops immediately. Traffic flow also affected till B C Road due to the incident.
