One hospitalized, several detained after clash between students at University College

Mangalore, Sep 20: A student of University College, Hampankatta was injured and subsequently hospitalised as a result of clashes that sparked between two groups of students here on Saturday.

Clashes sparked between the two groups in the college when students from one of the group apparently eve-teased a girl student in the college campus. Enraged by this, a clash ensued after classes on Saturday.

A student named Deekshith is said to have been badly injured when the clash broke out between them. Sustaining injuries, he was admitted at Wenlock hospital for treatment and recovery.

Following the clash, each opposing group lodged a complaint against the other at Pandeshwar police station, following which the police made few arrests.

Among the ten who were named as accused in both the complaints, eight were arrested by the police.

According to sources, there was already an undercurrent of rivalry between the two groups which surfaced when eve-teasing came into the picture. It was learnt that some of the students engaged in rude behaviour with media persons during the clash, and later apologized to them.
