Mangaluru, Oct 28: The reasons for the recent deaths of four persons in Dakshina Kannada, who were infected with H1N1 (swine flu) virus, were other ailments, according to district health officer N Ramakrishna Rao.

The four swine flu patients who recent died in Dakshina Kannada are: Avamma, 48, and her daughter Zabina, 23, from Sajipanadu, Abudullah,50, a resident of Malluru and Jamila, 38, from Halekote in Ullal. A death audit committee was formed to give a final report on four suspected deaths due to H1N1.
According to Rao, all the victims died due to other ailments which they were suffering from, before they were infected with H1N1. “Since they died due to other ailments, their death cannot be considered to be caused by H1N1,” he added.
Mayyadi, the husband of Avamma, suspected that his wife died due to swine flu, but Rao denied this, and said he died due to other ailments.
Rao said that as many as 10 new cases of H1N1 (swine flu) have been detected in the past 10 days. “All the infected patients are undergoing treatment. Meanwhile, health workers have intensified surveillance across the Dakshina Kannada district for more such cases,” he added.
