Mangaluru, Oct 24: A meeting of the Muslim Central Committee here on Wednesday resolved to urge the Congress to field a Muslim candidate from Dakshina Kannada parliamentary constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
It decided to constitute an action committee to submit a memorandum to the Congress.
It decided to rope in Ministers, such as U.T Khader, B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan, to prevail upon the Congress on this issue.
The meeting decided that if the Congress denied ticket to a Muslim candidate, the committee should decide on the next course of action. K.S. Mohammed Masood, president of the central committee and former MLC, presided over the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Masood said that there is a need to create an awareness on the need to field a Muslim candidate from the constituency as none from the community have been fielded so far.
He said that if the “strong secular party” did not declare by next month that a Muslim candidate would be fielded, a meeting to create awareness would be conducted in the city during December.
