Mangalore, Aug 8: Amidst the threat of an outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in the Middle East, the Health and Family Welfare Ministry in Karnataka has planned to screen the passengers at Mangalore and Bangalore international airports.
Addressing media persons after inspecting Government Wenlock Hospital in the city on Friday, the U T Khader, Health and Family Welfare Minister, said that the screening of passengers will begin in both the airports on Saturday, August 9.
He said that even though there has been no threat of the deadly virus spreading to India, it will be the duty of the each state government to take appropriate precautionary measures.
Mr Khader, who is the first health minister in India to take this step, said that he would write to his counterparts in Kerala, Maharashtra and New Delhi to start similar screening process in the international airports in their states.
He said that the government will not ignore the safety of the doctors and experts who will screen the passengers at the airports.
The minister urged the people who are travelling to African countries to postpone their plans till the threat of Ebola virus subsides.
