Mangalore, Feb 13: Pejawar Mutt pontiff Vishvesha Theertha Swamiji along with several other seers visited the sensitive area of Mogaveerpatna in Ullal on Thursday and spoke to few affected families in the area which is returning to normalcy after unrest.

While assuring the Mogaveera families of their support and instilling confidence in them, he said that the Hindu society was ready to stand by their side if they were subjected to any injustice or harm.

Addressing the gathering at a temple in Mogaveerpatna, Vishvesha Theertha Swamiji said that he wanted to protect the Hindu society and safeguard its members. “We want to ensure that peace prevails in Ullal and will not harm anyone. However, if any atrocity takes place on followers of Hindu religion, he will passively undertake protests against this,” he said.

He said that it was not proper for other leaders to allege that he and the other seers' visit to the sensitive area was politically motivated. “We have come to alleviate the tension in the region. Although we have no ill-feelings towards people from other communities, we have a greater responsibility towards Hindus,” he said.

He urged that the police department should release the innocent persons arrested in connection with the unrest caused in the area. To compensate for the damage caused by miscreants to the boats belonging to the Mogaveera families, the government should provide appropriate relief, he stressed.

Rajashekharananda swamiji of Gurupur Vajradehi Mutt said that the group of seers would take up the safety of the Mogaveeras with the chief minister and the home ministry. “If the government fails to respond in a favourable manner, we will hold a mass hunger strike led by Pejawar swamiji in the coming days,” he said.

Earlier, RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat said that their main aim was to protect the Hindu society. When injustice and atrocities are meted out to members of the Hindu society, there is a need to protect them from this. Hence, a group of seers led by Pejawar swamiji has taken a decision to come here and instill confidence among the Mogaveera community, he said.

He said that the visit was not publicity to procure vote-banks for the upcoming elections. The seers have come to provide solace to the community, he said.

Odiyoor Mutt Gurudevananda swamiji, Muktananda swamiji of Shree Kshetra Karinje, Vidyaprasanna Thirtha swamiji of Subrahmanya Mutt, Ramananda swamiji of Kolya Mutt, Kalahasthendra swamiji, Nithyananda Swamiji and others were present on the occasion.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Educational institutions in Mangaluru that rely on the popular Mangala Stadium for their annual sports events are bracing for an inconvenience as the city's key sporting venue is set to close its gates for a significant upgrade. The stadium is expected to be unavailable for approximately two months starting from January 15, 2026.

The closure is necessitated by a proposed overhaul of the stadium's facilities, with a special focus on upgrading the synthetic track. Pradeep Dsouza, Assistant Director of the District of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES), Dakshina Kannada, confirmed the development.

"Experts have visited the stadium, conducted a thorough inspection, and have given the go-ahead for a complete makeover," Dsouza stated. "Funds have been allocated for the project, and we are currently awaiting the final green signal from state officials to commence the work. We anticipate that the work will likely begin in the second week of January. Consequently, we have stopped renting out the stadium to colleges and other organizations in preparation for the upgrade."

The timing presents a logistical challenge for colleges, as many schools have already concluded their sports meets.

"Colleges will now be organizing their events and will need to find alternative locations to host their sports meets," Dsouza added. He suggested a few potential venues, including the Dakshina Kannada police ground, University College grounds, Panambur grounds, Swaraj Maidan in Moodbidri, and the Mangalore University sports grounds in Konaje.

However, many institutions note that finding a comparable venue will be difficult. While the DK police ground and University College grounds are closer to the city center, they do not possess the extensive facilities and infrastructure offered by Mangala Stadium.

Dr. P Dayananda Pai - P Satisha Govt First Grade College, Carstreet, is one such institution dependent on the stadium. Principal Jayakar Bhandary expressed hope for a swift completion of the work. "We expect the work to be completed at the earliest. If not, we will be forced to look for other venues to host the sports day for our students," Bhandary said, highlighting the pressing need for the city's main sporting facility.

While monitoring social media activity on Tuesday, Kankanady Town PSI Anitha Nikkam identified the Instagram handle ‘team_targetttt_900’ for posting a hate message alongside images of lethal weapons. Another account, ‘team_nagara_900’, allegedly shared a threatening post targeting activist Bharath Kumdelu, tagging additional pages such as KARAVALI-OFFICIAL.

Several other accounts — including ‘immu_bhai.fan’, ‘target_boy_900’, ‘kings_of_manglore’, ‘team_target_boys.900’, ‘arshad_mangalore’, ‘target_ka19_ullal’, ‘team_target__’, ‘troll_tigersz_900’, ‘tr_group_900’, and ‘team_target_900’ — are also under scrutiny for spreading similar inflammatory material, police said.
