Addressing a press meet here on Friday, the popular leader, who lost the Udupi-Chikmagalur seat to BJP's Shobha Karandlaje, said that he would continue to serve the people of his constituency.
He also said that during his tenure as a member of parliament he never lost even a single opportunity to raise his voice in the Lok Sabha and always focused on developmental works.
He said that despite his dedication, commitment and hard work Shobha Karandlaje won the Udupi-Chikmagalur seat this time. This clearly shows that a majority of people this time did not consider the real developmental works, he lamented.
He went on to claim that it was in a way a fight between him and BJP's prime minister designate Narendra Modi and that Ms Karandlaje was not his direct rival in the elections.
He also lamented about the glorification of Narendra Modi during election campaign which made people to blindly believe on him and support BJP candidates.
Mr Hegde however said that his party workers gave him maximum support and worked hard during election campaign.
