Careless hospitals
Meanwhile, Health minister U T Khader has said that the government will issue a notice to Krishna Rajendra Hospital administration, seeking explanation for allegedly not treating those injured in the Periyapatna accident. An explanation will also be sought from Apollo Hospital in the city, he added.
Shortly after the Wednesday morning's accident, the injured were wheeled into KR Hospital, only to be shifted to Apollo Hospital and Bhanvi Hospital later. The doctors at KR Hospital and Apollo Hospital have allegedly not attended to the injured, forcing the relatives to shift them to Bhanvi Hospital.
"This is inhuman, and violation of the Supreme Court order," an angry Khader said, announcing notices to the two hospitals. Given that KR Hospital is attached to Mysore Medical College and Research Institute, the medical education department will be asked to issue the notice, he told reporters.
The minster also said that he is exploring options to bear hospital expenses of the injured.
The accident at Kampalapura on Mysore-Madikeri Road claimed nine lives and left 13 injured. The minister, who had rushed to meet the families of the dead and injured at Periyapatna on Wednesday, visited those injured and enquired about their health with the doctors of Bhanvi Hospital early on Thursday. "Doctors and administrators at KR and Apollo hospitals have behaved indifferently," he stated.
According to him, when the patients were wheeled into KR Hospital, the doctors didn't respond quickly. They were redirected to Apollo Hospital, where the administrators asked the relatives to pay for admission. The relatives were forced to shift them to Bhanvi Hospital, which treated them accordingly, he said, adding that he will not buckle under any pressure.
