Mangalore, Nov 29: Denying the involvement of its members in the brutal attack on a journalist by about 40 men near his residence in Bantwal taluk, the district unit of Popular Front of India (PFI) has claimed that the allegations were false.
Clarifying their stand at a press conference in the city on Friday, president of PFI Mangalore Zone Ataullah Jokatte said that the false allegations had been made by vested interests who were trying to defame the organisation.
“PFI is an organisation that works for the benefit of the society and does not support any form of moral policing or assaults by any individual or organisation. This organisation has fought against instances of moral policing that have occurred in the coastal region in the past few years. These allegations are being made to falsely claim that even Muslim organisations indulge in moral policing. PFI is being wrongly targeted,” he said.
He urged that the police should conduct necessary investigation in this regard and take stern legal action against the perpetrators of the brutal attack.
PFI Puttur zone president Shafi Bellare, Belthangady zone president Hyder Neersal, Bantwal zone president Zakaria and others were present in the press conference.
