Mangalore, Apr 15: Close to the heels of sporadic clashes between two groups in Kalladka town, Popular Front of India (PFI) state vice-president Abdul Razak Kemmara alleged that the unrest that had arisen in Kalladka, following a Congress public meeting held in the town few weeks ago, was a political conflict between Congress and BJP members which was being portrayed as communal clashes by the political parties.
Speaking at a press conference here on Monday, he said that the conflicts were being sparked by both political parties, Congress and BJP, for political gains. The ones that are falling victims to such politically-driven conflicts are innocent Hindu and Muslim youth, who are taken into custody and arrested. Even when the Congress government in is power in the state, the atrocities and assaults on Muslims have not reduced, he said, criticising the Congress government.
Following the remark made by district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai that the supporters of PFI and SDPI were “semi-Bearys”, the PFI leader urged the Congress leader to withdraw his remark. The minister has to apologise to the Muslim community for belittling the community and degrading it publicly, failing which the party will pay for its mistakes in the coming days, he warned.
He also criticised the Congress leader for having failed to arrest Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat as assured by him earlier.
He also condemned the targeting of PFI cadres in the mud-slinging game between Congress and BJP leaders that began after the Lok Sabha elections were declared.
To a query whether the police officials were involved in booking innocent youth under false charges, he replied that the police department functioned in accordance with the administration or the ruling party.
Urging all electorates to exercise their votes in the elections on Thursday, he said that like the previous elections, PFI would support SDPI candidate in these elections as well.
