PFI seeks Supreme Court’s intervention to prevent Sangh Parivar from 'humiliating judiciary'

Bengaluru, Nov 3: The Central Secretariat meeting of Popular Front of India held in Karnataka’s capital has sought urgent Supreme Court intervention to prevent Sangh Parivar from humiliating Indian judicial system in the name of Ram Mandir construction on the site of the demolished Babri Masjid in Ayodhya.

The leaders of RSS, BJP and other related outfits are undermining Supreme Court of India by their repeated assertions and calls in public that Mandir would be constructed irrespective of cases pending before courts.  It must also be a matter of serious concern of the apex court that they are misusing a dispute which is under its consideration for nation-wide communal polarization merely as a means to win elections.  The meeting demanded the Supreme Court to initiate criminal actions against Sangh Parivar leaders who are engaged in such criminal and anti-national activities.

While people as well as parties await the final judgment in Babri Masjid case, it is to be remembered that the Babri Masjid – Ram Mandir issue is primarily an ownership dispute, not a matter to be decided as per either Hindu or Muslim faith. The meeting pointed out that any approach to the issue other than that based on facts and records will lead to denial of justice.

It was the failure of our democratic institutions in preventing Sangh Parivar organizations from taking the law into their hands that worsened this issue in the past which finally led to the demolition of centuries old Babri Masjid on 6 December 1992. The demolition was done defying existing court orders to maintain status quo on the site, while all the democratic apparatuses of the country stood watching. Hundreds of innocent Muslims lost their lives in the anti-Muslim riots that followed in various parts of the country. By further deepening the communal divide in the country, BJP still continues to exploit the issue in their polarizing campaigns in the face of every successive election.

With next Lok Sabha election is approaching, BJP leaders are making provocative statements that not only threaten Muslim community, but the very status of the Supreme Court as the highest institution of justice in the country. They pay zero respect to the democratic institutions in the country, openly denounce the Constitution, and try to influence the final judicial verdict by using threats and pressures in public and media.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, with least respect for judiciary, demanded that an ordinance should be promulgated to build Ram Temple at the site of demolished Babri Masjid.   BJP President Amit Sha is dictating terms to the courts in the country. He criticized the Shabarimala temple verdict allowing entry for women as impracticable and threatened that courts should not pass orders that cannot be implemented.  Interestingly, RSS always demanded strict execution of court verdicts whenever practices of minority communities are outlawed.

Since judiciary is the last resort of justice to the citizens of this country, Supreme Court has to rise to occasion and illustrate its high esteem and constitutional powers in the face of ongoing threats. The meeting appealed the apex court to prosecute those who undermine the role of judiciary through public statements.

Hashimpura verdict a slap on the face on state terrorism

The Central Secretariat meeting hailed the Delhi High Court judgment that awarded life imprisonment to the accused belonging to Provincial Armed Constabulary of Uttar Pradesh in the killing of 38 Muslims from Hashimpura village in the Meerut district of UP in 1987.   The High Court has set aside the verdict of the trial court that acquitted all accused 28 years after the incident.  The HC judgment has pointed out that the incident was a targeted killing of persons belonging to a minority community. This victory of the legal fight, though delayed 31 years, is a slap on the face of all official agents of state terrorism anywhere in India.  The meeting opined that while attempts to undermine judiciary are let free by the governments, such judgments reinforce people’s faith in it.

Chairman E Abubacker presided over the meeting, which was attended by Vice chairman OMA Salam, General Secretary M. Muhammed Ali Jinna, EM Abdul Rahiman, KM Shareef and Abdul Wahid Sait.

Mangaluru, Dec 7: A 34-year-old fruit and vegetable trader in Mangaluru has reportedly lost ₹33.1 lakh after falling victim to an online investment scam run through a fake mobile app.

Police said the scam began in September, when the victim received a link on Facebook. Clicking it connected him to a WhatsApp number, where an unidentified person introduced a high-return investment scheme and instructed him to download an app.

To build trust, the fraudster asked him to invest ₹30,000 on September 24. The trader soon received ₹34,000 as “profit,” convincing him the scheme was genuine. Over the next two months, he transferred money in multiple instalments via Google Pay and IMPS to different scanner codes and bank accounts shared by the scammers. Between September 24 and December 3, he ended up sending a total of ₹33.1 lakh.

When he later requested a refund of his investment and promised returns, the scammers demanded additional payments, claiming he needed to pay a “service tax” first. Even after he paid a small amount, no money was returned, and the scammers continued pressuring him for more.

A case has been registered at the CEN Crime Police Station.

Mangaluru: Public transport in Mangaluru is set for a state-led transformation as the government moves to deploy 100 new electric govt buses to replace unreliable private services. The initiative aims to provide a dependable alternative to private operators who have been frequently "cutting trips," leaving thousands of commuters stranded.

The announcement was made by Deputy Commissioner and MCC Administrator Darshan HV during a public phone-in session. The move specifically targets routes where private bus service has become erratic, ensuring that citizens no longer have to rely on a fluctuating private sector for their daily commute.

Restoring the Govt Presence

The transport crisis was brought to the forefront by Ramayya, a resident of Bajal, who highlighted a growing trend of private buses skipping morning and night trips. With the previous KSRTC (govt) services discontinued, residents have been left without a fallback option.

To fix this, the DC confirmed that the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme will bring 100 government-owned electric buses to the city:

•    Phased Deployment: The first 50 of the new 100 government buses are scheduled to arrive by March 2026.

•    State Infrastructure: Two new government depots, including one at Mudipu, are being prepared for operations.

•    Recruitment: The state has already begun training a new batch of government bus drivers to ensure the fleet is operational the moment it arrives.

SHRIMP.jpg

Mangaluru, Dec 7: A rare bamboo shrimp has been rediscovered on mainland India more than 70 years after it was last reported, confirming for the first time the presence of Atyopsis spinipes in the country. The find was made by researchers from the Centre for Climate Change Studies at Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, during surveys in Karnataka and Odisha.

The team — shrimp expert Dr S Prakash, PhD scholar K Kunjulakshmi, and Mangaluru-based researcher Maclean Antony Santos — combined field surveys, ecological assessments and DNA analysis to identify the elusive species. Their findings, published in Zootaxa, resolve decades of taxonomic confusion stemming from a 1951 report that misidentified the species as Atyopsis moluccensis without strong evidence.

The shrimp has now been confirmed at two locations: the Mulki–Pavanje estuary near Mangaluru and the Kuakhai River in Bhubaneswar. Historical specimens from the Andaman Islands, previously labelled as A. moluccensis, were also found to be misidentified and actually belong to A. spinipes.

The rediscovery began after an aquarium hobbyist in Odisha spotted a shrimp in 2022, prompting systematic surveys across Udupi, Karwar and Mangaluru. Four female specimens were collected in Mulki and one in Odisha, all genetically matching.

Researchers warn the species may exist in very small, vulnerable populations as freshwater habitats face increasing pressure from pollution, sand mining and infrastructure development. All verified specimens have been deposited with the Zoological Survey of India for future reference.
