Plaint against CM Siddaramaiah reaches Congress high command

December 26, 2014

New Delhi, Dec 26: Denotification of land in Bengaluru's Arkavathi Layout is likely to snowball into a major issue with some Congress leaders complaining to the high command against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Plaint against CM Siddaramaiah
Party sources said that these leaders have complained that some of the beneficiaries in the denotifications are close to the chief minister. The leaders also cautioned the party against possible embarrassment if the matter is taken to court as planned by BJP. They also warned that the saffron party may seek the Governor's sanction to prosecute Siddaramaiah over the issue.

Some Congress leaders who have been aspiring for the post of chief minister have been camping in the national capital for the past several days and have handed over all documents about the controversy to the party's top brass, sources told Deccan Herald.

These leaders said that Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala may put the State government in the dock like the then Governor H R Bhardwaj did to former BJP chief minister B S Yeddyurappa. Bhardwaj had, in 2011, accorded sanction to prosecute Yeddyurappa over allegations of denotification of land acquired by the government, apart from other charges, following a plea by two advocates.

The BJP State core committee meeting held here on Monday and attended by the party's general secretary and State incharge M Muralidar Rao had decided to go to court to take the matter to its œlogical end. The State BJP leaders, who have been discussing with national leaders on the next move, are tightlipped about approaching the Governor.

The acquisition of land for the Arkavathi Layout of the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has been in the eye of a storm ever since the project was promoted in 2003 by the S M Krishna government.

The Siddaramaiah government, on the basis of a recommendation of the board of the BDA, had approved a remodified scheme for the Arkavathi Layout. It thus denotified 541 acres acquired for the formation of the layout.

Though the chief minister has been maintaining that he had denotified as per the court direction, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Jagadish Shettar has alleged that the chief minister violated six guidelines issued by the High Court of Karnataka in the process.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.

Mangaluru, Dec 7: A 34-year-old fruit and vegetable trader in Mangaluru has reportedly lost ₹33.1 lakh after falling victim to an online investment scam run through a fake mobile app.

Police said the scam began in September, when the victim received a link on Facebook. Clicking it connected him to a WhatsApp number, where an unidentified person introduced a high-return investment scheme and instructed him to download an app.

To build trust, the fraudster asked him to invest ₹30,000 on September 24. The trader soon received ₹34,000 as “profit,” convincing him the scheme was genuine. Over the next two months, he transferred money in multiple instalments via Google Pay and IMPS to different scanner codes and bank accounts shared by the scammers. Between September 24 and December 3, he ended up sending a total of ₹33.1 lakh.

When he later requested a refund of his investment and promised returns, the scammers demanded additional payments, claiming he needed to pay a “service tax” first. Even after he paid a small amount, no money was returned, and the scammers continued pressuring him for more.

A case has been registered at the CEN Crime Police Station.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
