Mangalore, May 23: Accusing police of arresting innocent Muslim youths in the murder case of an auto rickshaw driver at Bantwal recently, the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has demanded a reinvestigation into the case.

Mr Katipalla said Irshad (21), Hussain (20) and Imran (20) were arrested “without proof” for their involvement in the murder of driver Rajesh Poojary in Kalpane Banjanapadavu, Bantwal taluk on March 21. He was also a Bajrang Dal activist.
“After the incident, there was immense pressure on the police by the Sangh Pariwar. And the police buckled by arresting three innocents,” he said, adding that the police were yet to furnish a motive for the murder.
While Nebisa, Irshad's mother, said that her son was sleeping in the house at the time of the murder, Shahida, Imran's mother, said that he had left for work at a stone quarry with his uncle and could not have travelled to the scene of the crime in the time after work.
“The police arrested Hussain, who works as a knife sharpener, and then questioned him under torture. He reeled off his list of acquaintances and the police arrested them without any reason,” said Mr. Katipalla.
