Sulaiman, 46, a resident of the Muriyanavi locality in Kanhangad, had sold his 18-month-old girl and six-month-old son in 2012 and 2013.
The police received a tip-off that the elder child had been “adopted” by a Brahmin childless couple. They were asked to produce the child before the police at Kanhangad, DySP M. Pradeep Kumar said.
Accordingly, the couple brought the child before officials investigating the case on Wednesday. The couple said they had adopted the child abiding by legal procedures through a woman lawyer based in Mangalore.
The girl was then taken to the Child Welfare Committee, which allowed them to take back the child on the condition that she would be produced before the panel on Saturday.
