Doha, Dec 22: Educational and political empowerment are the only solution for all the problems faced by Muslims in India, opined K M Shareef, Chairman of Popular Front of India.

He was speaking on the topic ‘The Plight of Indian Muslims’ organized by the Karnataka chapter of Qatar India Fraternity Forum (IFF).

“If Muslims were oppressed by colonial British due to their resistance towards colonialism, the post independent sovereign governments mostly neglected the biggest minority community in the country. The existing political parties see the community as a mere vote bank,” he said.

He said the Justice Rajinder Sachar commission appointed by the government of India has rightly marked the status of Muslim community, who falls far beyond even the Dalits in terms of education and basic developments. Solution should come within and the first and foremost important step is to increase the awareness level that would lead to creative developmental initiatives, the PFI Chairman reiterated.

Abdul Hay, educationist and Vice President of Karnataka Muslim Cultural Association presided over.

Dr. C K Abdulla, president of Qatar India Fraternity Forum, Ayoob Ullal, president of the Forum Karnataka chapter and Zakir Shimoga were present on the occasion.
