Mangaluru, Mar 31: Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner S Sasikanth Senthil, who is also the district electoral officer, has warned the people that accepting cash or any kind of gifts for vote will be a punishable offence as the election code of conduct is in force.

A communiqué issued by the DC sated that receiving money or gifts during election will be violation of Section 171 (B) of the Indian Penal Code. The violation will attract jail term for a period of one year and/or penalty.
The district administration has been making elaborate arrangements to monitor model code of conduct violations.
As many as 24 Model Code of Conduct teams, 26 static surveillance teams, and 26 check posts have been set up to check various types of violations on part of political parties in the district.
Besides, 26 flying squads have been formed to monitor those who bribe or threaten voters. People have been asked to dial 18004252099 if they come across any such violations in their respective areas.
