Addressing mediapersons at a press conference here on Friday, chairman of the council P P Hegde said that a person named Krishna Rao from the office of the Lokayukta was alleged to have called Bengaluru Urban Zilla Panchayat Executive Engineer Krishnamurthy, a senior government official, to the official residence of the Lokayukta in Bengaluru on April 21, which was a government holiday on account of Basava Jayanti, and later to a star hotel at Race Course Road, Bengaluru on April 25, where he was demanded to pay a bribe of Rs 1 crore to wriggle out of a raid, he said, adding that similar complaints had been made in the recent past alleging the involvement of Lokayukta officials in extortion of money from public servants.

He pointed that no inquiry had been initiated by Lokayukta Justice Y Bhaskar Rao against the alleged corruption by officials close to him despite widely published reports in the media claiming that same.

Referring to a recent letter written by Lokayukta Superintendent of Police, Bengaluru City Sonia Narang alleging the existence of an extortion racket within the Lokayukta set up, he said that no action had been taken in this regard yet and the 'silence' of the Lokayukta had put the integrity of the entire Lokayukta at stake.

The state bar council demands that the persons involved in the commission of the offence should be arrested and immediate investigation should be conducted by an independent agency, under sections 7 and 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. An FIR should be registered immediately and the investigation should be handed over to the CBI, while Lokayukta Justice Bhaskar Rao should tender his resignation from his position, he demanded.

If the demands are not met, advocates throughout the state will protest against the corruption inside the Lokayukta, he added.

In response to a query from a mediaperson, he said that the state bar council was in possession of RTI documents that proved the instances of corruption in the Lokayukta set up.

Udupi: A 40-year-old NRI from Udupi has reportedly lost more than Rs 12.25 lakh in an online investment scam operated through Telegram.

According to a complaint filed at the CEN police station, Leo Jerome Mendonsa, who has been working in Dubai for the past 15 years in computer accessories sales, maintains NRI accounts in Karkala and Nitte.

On November 12, 2025, Mendonsa was added to a Telegram group called Instaflow Earnings by unknown individuals. Users identified as Priya and Dipannita persuaded him to invest in “Revenue Tasks.” Initially, Mendonsa transferred Rs 1,100 multiple times and received the promised returns, encouraging him to continue.

On November 14, another user, Nishmitha Shetty, directed him to register on a website, digitvisionuoce.cc, and invest Rs 4 lakh in various shares. Over the next few days, he made multiple transfers totaling Rs 12,25,000, including Rs 50,000 via Google Pay, believing the scheme was legitimate.

After receiving the money, the alleged handlers stopped responding, and neither the invested amount nor the promised profits were returned.

The CEN police have registered a case under Sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the IT Act and Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and investigations are ongoing.
