Bhatkal, Dec 31: "Muslim students should not only become degree-holders, but they should be prepared to become worthy of the Nobel prize," said Padma Bhushan Moosa Raza, the Chairman of the South Indian Educational Trust.
Mr Raza, who had earlier served as the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, Advisor to the Governor of Uttar Pradesh and, in Delhi and as Secretary to the Government of India in the Cabinet Secretariat and in the Ministry of Steel, was speaking as the chief guest at 'Rabita Award' distribution programme for talented students.
Academic degrees are not everything. Students have to be brought out of this mindset. There is a good chance of motivating and leading them forward with a driven goal, he said, stressing the need for an educational institution that will prepare students to be Nobel-worthy.
He said that the right-wing organisation RSS which had been making attempts to change the mindset of the people from the past 60 years, was achieving its goals in the present day through the BJP. "In the coming days, political parties with pro-Hindutva agenda may come to power in the remaining states. The intention of transforming India into a Hindu nation may strengthen over time. However, we must not be alarmed over this as a majority of the 52-page manifesto of the BJP speaks about development while only three pages at the end are allotted for their Hindutva. In this regard, we must pressurize on the government to fulfill their promise of development of poor and backward classes.," he said.
Maulana Tahir Madani spoke on the importance of education for the youth.
Rabita Awards were distributed along with cash prizes to achievers who had scored over 90 percent in SSLC, PUC, BA and BCom courses.
