Nagaraj, a trust member, has filed a complaint with the temple trust accusing the priests of cutting open the crown of the idol.
The allegation prompted Deputy Commissioner of Bengaluru district (Urban) V. Shankar and senior police officers to conduct a preliminary probe on Friday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Lokesh Kumar said preliminary enquiries revealed that few grams of gold had been stolen.
“We have not received a complaint so far, and a detailed investigation will be conducted after a formal complaint is filed,” he said.
In his complaint to the trust, Mr. Nagaraj has alleged that the priests closed the doors of the sanctum sanctorum of the temple on the pretext of performing a ritual.
It was reportedly done in a suspicious manner. Mr. Nagaraj also said there was CCTV footage recording to substantiate his claim.
