Muduigere, Oct 17: Tension prevailed at Kunduru village, near Mudigere in Chikkamagaluru district, on Friday morning, when residents set a private bus on fire, following an accident in which a man was killed.

As the news of the accident spread, many people from the village gathered at the accident site and staged a protest against the private bus operator.
The police shifted the bus to Mudigere after the protesters started pelting stones at it. However, the protesters stopped another bus belonging to the same operator, which was heading towards Mudigere from Balehonnur, forced the passengers to get down and set the bus on fire. Additional police forces were rushed to the spot and they succeeded in restoring normality.
K. Santosh Babu, Superintendent of Police, Chikkamagaluru, said that the situation had returned to normality. “We have registered a case, though the bus driver is absconding. We have also registered a case against the incidents that followed the accident. However, we have not taken anyone into custody,” he said.
