Bengaluru, Jun 17: The JD(S) has reiterated its demand for a CBI inquiry into the entire Rajya Sabha election process in the state.
JD(S) spokesperson Ramesh Babu has urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) through the office of the Returning Officer for Rajya Sabha polls, to include the complaint of cross-voting by eight JD(S) MLAs in the CBI probe.
The ECI had recommended a CBI probe into the cash for vote' sting operation conducted by television channels where certain MLAs, including JD(S) MLA Mallikarjun Khuba, have come under the scanner.
In a letter on Thursday, Babu has also sought a CBI probe into the assurance reportedly made by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Energy Minister D K Shivakumar (about allocating Rs 100 crore) for the development of constituencies represented by Independent MLAs.
The party has asked the Returning Officer to furnish video footage of the entire Rajya Sabha elections held on June 11, complaints by agents and the action initiated with regard to the same. The letter states that Congress has 123 MLAs, and its first and second candidates, Oscar Fernandes and Jairam Ramesh had garnered 47 and 46 votes, respectively. Though Congress was left with only 30 votes for its third candidate K C Ramamurthy, he eventually got 52 votes.
CBI probe
“It is widely speculated that the Congress has lured 8 JD(S) MLAs and Independent MLAs through money and by promising development of their constituencies. The ECI has already ordered a CBI probe - it should also inquire into the allurements made to the JD(S) and Independent MLAs,” it adds.
