Hubballi, Apr 26: The aircraft in which Congress supremo Rahul Gandhi arrived in Hubballi today experienced major technical snag before landing. Those who were travelling in the flight along with Mr Gandhi have alleged that the special flight was intentionally sabotaged.
As soon as the news began to spread, the Prime Minister's Office called Mr Gandhi to inquire about his safety, media reports said.
Kaushal Vidyarthee, who was one of the five passengers in the aircraft VT-AVH flying from Delhi to Hubballi, has written to the state police chief Neelmani N Raju stating 'unexplained that technical failures' occurred during course of flight.
Hinting at the possibility of a conspiracy, the complaint said the plane “shuddered violently”, tilting to one side, while a noise was audible. The complaint also said the autopilot did not function and that the plane landed in Hubblli only on the third attempt. “shuddering and altitude dipping were not natural or weather related,” he added.
“It is to be stated that the weather outside was sunny, normal and not windy as per the observation of the passengers and as per the forecast of the day,” the complaint said. “The crew was also petrified and admitted that the flight was particularly frightening and uncommon,” it added.
Rahul Gandhi is on a two-day tour of Karnataka ahead of the May 12 assembly elections in the state. The pilot and the crew of the aircraft have been questioned, an official at Hubballi airport said on the condition of anonymity as he was not authorised to speak to the media.
