With just a day left for Karnataka to begin polling, Mangalore South MLA on Tuesday, pointed out few irregularities in the list of eligible voters in the Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency.
He said that as many as 16,000 eligible voters in the constituency had the same unique card numbers on their voter IDs (EPIC cards), which might prevent them to exercise their franchise on the polling day. This irregularity was discovered using a specially-designed software to check for such discrepancies in the voters list. When the list of voters was run through the software, this irregularity was found. It had been brought to the notice of the District Election Officer who had assured to look into it immediately, he said.
He also pointed that several voters had been deleted from the voters list at the behest of the booth level officers (BLOs) in the district, during the official period allotted for registration of new voters or deletion of names from the list.
He said that if the discrepancies were found to be valid, then several electorates in the district would lose their right to vote.
