Mangaluru, Jun 26: B Ramanath Rai, Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada, who had earlier set August as the deadline for completing the renovation of the town hall, on Friday directed Mangaluru City Corporation officials to complete work within next four months.

Responding to a question by a BJP councillor at a meeting at the corporation, the Minister said that he did not rule out a “political conspiracy” over the stalling of renovation work of the town hall.
“Political system is invisible” and hence it (stalling the works) could be due to the “political conspiracy” also, he said.
Leader of the Opposition BJP in the council Sudhir Shetty Kannur said that as the town hall has been closed since September, 2014 and many artistes and organisations do not have an alternative hall to conduct programmes. Staging of yakshagana programmes in rainy season has been mainly hit, he said.
Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim said that he was not aware about any letter written by the former Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati to the government with regard to the town hall issue.
rying to end the issue after Nirmiti Kendra, headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, refused to continue the works after dismantling the chairs at the hall, the Minister said that the kendra should first complete the work assigned to it. Short-term tenders (bid) should be invited to take up balance works.
Works assigned to the kendra at an estimated Rs. 99.75 lakh included granite flooring to the hall, green and VIP rooms and some interior works. The corporation had released an advance of Rs. 50 lakh to the kendra for the work which began on October 18, 2014.
According to a meeting note on the subject placed on Friday, the corporation council in its meeting on October 29 decided to fix air-conditioners, electric generator, construct a cooking room, repair the ceiling of the hall, install new chairs at an estimated cost of Rs. 98 lakh as continued works.
But the kendra in a November 26, 2014 letter to the corporation said that it was not in a position to take up any more works as it was facing dearth of staff.
